In advance of the Berlinale, German powerhouse Beta Cinema has snapped up international rights to Berlinale competition entry My Little Sister (Schwesterlein) from Swiss director duo Stéphanie Chuat and Véronique Reymond.
My Little Sister stars Silver Bear winner Nina Hoss (Phoenix, Homeland) and Lars Eidinger (Personal Shopper). Also in the cast is Marthe Keller (Marathon Man, Booby Deerfield, Billy Wilder's Fedora).
The film is produced by Ruth Waldburger's Vega Film in co-production with RTS, SRG/SSR, and ARTE. It is the latest venture from Swiss director-duo Chuat and Reymond (The Little Bedroom), who co-directed all of their previous films and also jointly wrote the script.
It is about a brilliant playwright who no longer writes. She lives with her family in Switzerland, but her heart remains in Berlin alongside her twin brother, a famous theatre actor, who is suffering from a chronic illness.
The film joins another Berlin competition contender, Burhan Qurbani's epic contemporary version of Alfred Döblin's 1929 novel Berlin Alexanderplatz, starring Welket Bungué, Jella Haase, and Albrecht Schuch, on Beta's EFM slate.
Beta has also confirmed it will give a market premiere in Berlin to Italian box office hit, The Immortal by Marco D'Amore. This is a spin-off from the series Gomorrah (also sold by Beta).
Further titles on the Beta slate include Narcissus And Goldmund, an adaptation of Hermann Hesse's Nobel Prize-winning bestseller directed by Oscar-winner Stefan Ruzowitzky, and German box-office hit, When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit, directed by Caroline Link.
