BETA CINEMA EXPANDS CANNES 2026 LINE-UP WITH NINA HOSS ADVENTURE THRILLER "THE OTHER SIDE" AND HISTORICAL DRAMA "THE ROME EIGHT".

Beta Cinema launches sales on two major additions to its Cannes 2026 slate, bolstering a high-profile lineup with a pair of ambitious European films: Joining the company’s Cannes market offering are The Other Side, an Alpine-set adventure thriller starring the acclaimed Nina Hoss (Tár, Phoenix, Barbara, Hedda), and The Rome Eight, a powerful underdog story based on true events, starring Oliver Masucci (Never Look Away, Look Who's Back) and  Felix Kammerer, who broke through internationally with the Academy Award-winning All Quiet on the Western Front.

Written and directed by Mariko Minoguchi (Relativity, The Colony), The Other Side is an emotionally resonant adventure-thriller set in a near-future society shaped by the aftermath of a devastating pandemic. Nina Hoss stars as Hanna, a former doctor who has retreated into isolation in the Alpine wilderness after losing her family to disease. When she encounters an injured stranger, her hard-won solitude — and thus survival — is put to the test.

The film currently in post-production is shot against a stark and unforgiving mountain landscape and transforms themes of isolation, fear and moral responsibility into a tightly wound cinematic experience, anchored by Hoss’s characteristically precise and deeply human performance.

It is produced by Trimafilm (Berlinale competition entry Home Stories) in co-production with Rundfilm and also stars Precious Mariam Sanusi (Fox in a Hole, Joy) and Barbara Petritsch (Night of a 1000 Hours). Felix Pflieger (Allegro Pastell, Tarantella) serves as Director of Photography. X-Verleih will be releasing the film in Germany towards the end of this year.

The Rome Eight, directed by Hannu Salonen (Oktoberfest: Beer and Blood), is a powerful historical underdog drama based on true events: In a divided post-war Germany, visionary coach Karl Adam defies convention with radical training methods, transforming a group of misfits into an unstoppable rowing crew. Against the backdrop of Cold War tensions and a defeated nation searching for identity, the team embodies courage, solidarity, and the healing power of sport. Their sensational victory at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome is not just a triumph on the water, but a symbol of hope and reconciliation for an entire generation.

The film currently is in post-production and features an ensemble cast that includes Oliver Masucci (Never Look Away, Dark), Felix Kammerer (All Quiet on the Western Front, Frankenstein, Legacy of Spies) and Svenja Jung (Deutschland 89). It is produced by Ninety-Minute Film (Ivo-Alexander Beck) in co-production with Adams Acht, Sunday Filmproduktion and Majestic Filmproduktion. Majestic is releasing the film in Germany on September 17, 2026.

Beta Cinema is attending the Marché du Film in Cannes from May 11-19 and can be found at the Mondrian Hotel, 45 Bd de la Croisette, at the right hand side of the main entrance.
