AHEAD OF THE GERMAN RELEASE, BETA CINEMA ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL INTERNATIONAL DEALS FOR "AMRUM" BY FATIH AKIN
As anticipation builds for the German theatrical release of AMRUM on October 9, Beta Cinema is proud to announce a new wave of international distribution deals, further expanding the film’s global footprint.
The critically acclaimed drama has now also been acquired by leading distributors across Australia & New Zealand (Palace Films), India (Big Tree Entertainment), Latin America (Synapse Distribution), Portugal (Pris Audiovisuais), Scandinavia (Angel Films), Italy (BIM Distribuzione), Greece (Rosebud.21), Turkey (Filmarti) and Ukraine (Svoekino). Deals for North America (Kino Lorber), France (Dulac Distribution), Spain (A Contracorriente), Japan (Bitters End) and Benelux (Cherry Pickers), among many others, were revealed earlier this year.
These deals follow strong interest from international buyers after the film’s successful festival premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and early market screenings. “These deals reflect the film’s universal appeal,” said Dirk Schürhoff, Managing Director of Beta Cinema. “The outstanding cast, the emotional and relevant story and the precise, unique handwriting of one of Germany’s most beloved directors, made AMRUM become one of the bestselling German movies this year.”
AMRUM, directed by Fatih Akin for his friend and mentor Hark Bohm, is a poignant and visually arresting drama that follows 12-year-old Nanning unraveling his family’s secret in the final weeks of World War II on the secluded island of Amrum. The film is based on true events and stars newcomer Jasper Billerbeck in the leading role, alongside Laura Tonke (AEIOU, The People vs. Fritz Bauer), Lisa Hagmeister (System Crasher), Kian Köppke, Matthias Schweighöfer (Army of the Dead) and Diane Kruger (In The Fade, Inglourious Basterds). It is produced by bombero international, Warner Bros. Film Productions Germany in co-production with Rialto Film. The production was supported by FFA, DFFF, Moin Film Förderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, BKM, MBB, MFG and Bayerischer Filmpreis.
Warner Bros. Germany will release AMRUM on October 9 throughout the German speaking territories. More than 20 international rollouts are planned for the coming months.
