True mafia story TIRED OF KILLING to world premiere at the Venice Film Festival

We are excited to announce that TIRED OF KILLING (AMMAZZARE STANCA) by Daniele Vicari will celebrate its world premiere at this year's Venice Film Festival, as part of the Spotlight section (formerly known as Orizzonti Special).

Based on a true story and Antonio Zagari’s autobiographical novel, TIRED OF KILLING offers a gripping insight into the life of an assassin. The film stars Gabriel Montesi (Bad Tales, Sei Fratelli), Vinicio Marchioni (There's Still Tomorrow), Selene Caramazza (Pure Hearts, The Bad Guy), and Rocco Papaleo (Basilicata, U.S. Palmese). Shot by DoP Gherardo Gossi (The Macaluso Sisters), TIRED OF KILLING is a Mompracem production with RAI Cinema, in co-production with Beta Film and supported by the Emilia-Romagna Film Commission. It is directed by Daniele Vicari (Diaz – Don’t Clean Up This Blood, The Human Cargo), a respected Italian filmmaker and recipient of numerous national awards.

While the Calabrian mafia is spreading its influence in the early 70s, Antonio, son of the high-ranking 'Ndrangheta boss Giacomo Zagari, finds himself killing more and more frequently, ultimately realising that he isn’t suited to this extreme lifestyle. While his generation rises up in factories, universities and public squares, Antonio finds the the strength to defy his father, rejecting his legacy.

Daniele Vicari notes, "I read the autobiography that Antonio Zagari wrote in jail many years ago. His sincerity and the way he described what killing meant to him left me speechless. I immediately felt it was worth turning into a film, because so many themes I care about come together in this story: action, family conflicts, desire for emancipation and rebellion, love, tragedy, irony. To tell this story, I had to venture into the fascinating world of gangster movies -with its wide range of possibilities- and let Antonio’s point of view challenge both common feelings and my own way of conceiving a story. I enjoyed this adventure and was excited to explore the thoughts and emotions of a man so different from myself. I tried to express that excitement through images."

Screening times and venues are to be announced soon.
