God damn it! Julia's getting married again. Why does she always have to get married so quickly? This isn't the first time Lore and Harry have argued about their erratic daughter. Lore thinks they should attend the wedding despite their reservations, while Harry is determined to boycott this latest whim. But Julia is only the tip of the iceberg. After 40 years of marriage, a lot has piled up. Since retiring, Harry seems to do nothing but wear cardigans, drink beer and grumble, while Lore clings to her job as a librarian, organizes embarrassing readings and celebrates her poets like prophets. Lore dreams of a different life filled with travel and culture; Harry tends to his delphiniums. They argue, make up, love and annoy each other, dealing with old affairs, diets, pressure washers, coiled bratwursts and the meaning of life. For a couple who talk so much, they often don't mean what they say, and beneath the surface, things are simmering.
