Vita Mia

by Edoardo Winspeare

A sweeping tale of European history seen through the eyes of a noblewoman—from the aristocratic salons to the ateliers of Dior. The film celebrates unexpected bonds that bring healing and joy to a life marked by exile and survival.

Didi, an elderly aristocrat, has chosen to retire in a small village in Apulia. Living with Parkinson's disease, she relies on Vita – a strong-willed woman from a modest background – for daily support. What begins as a practical arrangement evolves into a profound connection, as mutual respect helps them bridge the gap between their worlds.Didi's days unfold against the backdrop of an impoverished aristocracy and the hallucinations brought on by illness. Through fragmented memories, we glimpse the scars of the Nazi regime, the tragedy of the Shoah, and the haunting guilt of survival at others' expense. Vita's presence becomes a catalyst, drawing long-buried secrets to the surface. After enduring the great upheavals of 20th-century European history, Didi discovers solace—and perhaps even a form of happiness—in the unexpected gift of friendship.
