Tragically, Rebecca perishes during a shipwreck, leaving Rob haunted by nightmares and responsible for caring for their baby boy. Upon arrival, Rob discovers that Muslims and Jews are barred from entering the city of London, let alone being admitted to the physicians' association. Undeterred by these obstacles, Rob and his companions establish a makeshift hospital outside the gates of London. When summoned by the king to attend to his daughter, Ilene, Rob's exceptional medical skills earn her trust, enabling him to alleviate her psychological afflictions. However, as he becomes entangled in the power struggles and political intrigue of the royal household, Cole must rely on his medical gift and innate cunning to survive in an England teetering on the brink of collapse.
