Kleinruppin Forever

by Carsten Fiebeler

Sometimes a misfortune is the best thing that can happen to you

What's the worst thing that could happen to a West-German teen in the mid 80s? How about getting stuck in gray, Communist East Germany! We're back in the days when Germany still came in two sizes and school kids from the West went on field trips to the East to study their pitiable cousins. Ditto for golden boy Tim, who runs into Ronny, the twin he never knew he had, in the backwater town of Kleinruppin. In a classic "separated-at-birth" case, Tim got the ace and Ronny pulled the joker. But now it's Ronny's turn to call the shots. A couple of hours later, Tim is recovering from a blow to the head from his dear brother and taking his first steps in a world of creepy officials, weird clothes and mind-numbingly boring jobs.Thank God for Jana, gorgeous beyond words, who makes the "wrong" place start feeling right. As Tim falls in love with Jana, makes great new pals and finds a family warmth he missed at home, it looks like there may be worse things in life than to be stuck in Kleinruppin forever…
