Munich, 6 February 2007. The Stasi thriller The Lives of Others made its successful theatrical debut in France. The Oscar-nominated feature averaged 765 viewers per copy and therefore came in second on its first weekend, landing before Leonardo di Caprio's Blood Diamond. Over 100,000 French moviegoers saw the debut film of Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, which was awarded seven German Film Prizes (Lola) and three European Film Prizes and was nominated for the Oscar as best foreign film as well as for the Golden Globe. 
In the next weeks and months, The Lives of Others will be coming to theaters in the U.S., Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Israel, Poland, Turkey and Australia. Beta Cinema has sold The Lives of Others throughout the world.
