Distributor Beta has the real deal with their buzz pic "The Counterfeiters."
The Holocaust drama, based on the true story of concentration camp prisoners forging money for the Nazis, is hotly tipped for a best thesp Bear either for Karl Markovics or Devid Striesow (also in Competion with "Yella").
"The Counterfeiters," which is distributed in Germany by Universum, has already sold to France, Scandinavia, Benelux, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Korea and all of Latin America. Final negotiations are underway with distribbers in Italy, Spain and Japan.
"We have definite interest from four U.S. distributors and also distributors in the U.K. It's just a matter of sitting down with them and finding out who's the right partner for this film," said Beta sales exec Andreas Rothbauer.
Beta topper Dirk Schuerhoff added that a Bear might boost those chances. "There's need to rush those deals."
Beta has also been busy selling Dani Levy's "Mein Fuhrer," for which they've closed on Eastern Europe and Italy.
