Andrea Occhipinti (Lucky Red) has announced today that Beta Cinema will handle international sales on IL DIVO by Paolo Sorrentino.

Beta Cinema has recently sold internationally films as “The Life of Others" and “The Downfall". 

“Il Divo" tells the story of a very delicate period of Italy’s recent history through the most important and controversial political personality: Giulio Andreotti. 

Seven times Prime Minister, twenty five times Minister, today life Senator, writer and journalist, since fifty years the centre of gravity of Italian politics.

Shooting was carried out in total secrecy, in spite of the huge media pressure. Principal photography wrapped up in the end of August and the film is now in postproduction.

“Il Divo" is the most awaited Italian film of 2008.

Produced by Indigo Film, Lucky Red and Parco Film, in cooperation with Sky Italia and the Film Commission Torino Piemonte, coproduced by Babe Film and Studio Canal (France), the film has been supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture, Eurimages and the Film Commission Regione Campania.

Paolo Sorrentino – successful director of “L’uomo in più" (2001) “Le conseguenze dell’amore" (2004 – in competition in Cannes FF) and “L’amico di famiglia" (2006 – in competition in Cannes FF) – has imposed to all actors in the film the absolute secrecy on their role.

Tony Servillo, the most esteemed Italian actor today by both critics and audience, plays Giulio Andreotti, together with Anna Bonaiuto, Piera Degli Esposti, Fanny Ardant, Carlo Buccirosso, Flavio Bucci, Giorgio Colangeli, Giulio Bosetti, Paolo Graziosi, Massimo Popolizio, Aldo Ralli.
