Munich, 21 October 2010. Beta Film’s children’s label Wunderbox has sold young people’s whodunit Little Robbers to Germany’s children’s broadcaster KI.KA. Wunderbox reported on Thursday, the Austrian-Latvian children’s film is expected to be aired in March 2011 by KI.KA, the joint broadcaster of ARD and ZDF. The coproduction of Studio F.O.R.M.A./Riga and MINI Film/Vienna tells the story of five-year-old Robby and his older sister Louise, who take revenge on a grim bank director (Karl Markovics, “The Counterfeiters”) who refuses to extend the family’s credit to pay the mortgage on their house. The script was written by Māris Putniņš, one of Latvia’s leading authors and producer of family films; the director is Armands Zvirbulis. Alpha Medienkontor launched Little Robbers (Original title: “Mazie laupitaji”) in German cinemas last week. The DVD distributor is Foreign Media Group. Little Robbers won the Children’s Audience Award at the Munich Film Festival in 2009.
“KI.KA is delighted to have one of the successful children’s and family films of the year 2010 – ‘Little Robbers’ – in its portfolio,” says Sebastian Debertin, head of Fiction & Program Acquisition at KI.KA. “With wit and humor, the film shows us that even the youngest can exert an influence on the destiny of more than just their own family. A winning example of how films endeavor to make children strong! Incidentally, this wonderful film also rightfully won the award of the specialists’ jury for the ‘Best Preschool Program’ at Germany’s children media festival “Golden Sparrow” 2010”.
