Munich, 8 Sep 2010: Honoured with three international Awards, Florian Cossen’s debut feature THE DAY I WAS NOT BORN was a success story at this year’s Montreal World Film Festival. The film won not only the AUDIENCE AWARD but also the Ecumenical Award and the prestigious FIPRESCI Prize from International Film Critics.

The FIPRESCI jury stated:

“We have chosen to award Florian Cossen’s feature length debut “THE DAY I WAS NOT BORN” for its economical storytelling, emotional restraint and the perfect blending of personal and historical subject matter. The film tells the story of a 30-year-old German who learns that her whole life was based on a lie. Now she has to decide where her loyalties belong. We were particularly impressed with the filmmaker’s ability to deal with subjects like betrayal, identity and family in an intimate and quiet manner. We also admired the way he used his camera to reflect the restlessness of the protagonist as she navigates a major turning point in an unknown environment and language”.
