Munich, 17 May 2012. Beta Cinema has gotten off to a great start at the Cannes Film Market, and has already inked a number of deals, including some sales for the international Market Premiere LOST IN SIBERIA as well as for the World War II-drama SÜSKIND.
LOST IN SIBERIA, which leapt to the top of the art-house charts in Germany on its first weekend, was sold to Israel (Lev Cinemas) and Bulgaria (Bulgaria Film Vision). In this culture-clash comedy, directed by Ralf Huettner (VINCENT WANTS TO SEA), Joachim Król (RUN LOLA RUN) plays a donnish logistician from a German mail order company who is sent to oversee a project in Siberia – and finds the love of his life. Rudolf van den Berg’s SÜSKIND has thrilled buyers in Italy (Madeleine), Japan (Only Hearts), China (Champ Lis) and Venezuela (Cines Unidos). Doris Doerrie’s Berlinale-Special film BLISS is off to South Korea (Peterpan Pictures) and Taiwan (Swallow Wings) as well as Norway (AS Fidalgo).
The Holocaust-drama IN DARKNESS by Agnieszka Holland, on the short list of this year’s Academy Award as Best Foreign Language Film, will be released in France by Eurozoom. The new animation film COME ON, LET´S FIND A TREASURE is based on the internationally bestselling children’s books by Janosch and has already stirred up considerable interest in the Middle East (IRIB).
