Cannes, 22 May 2013. The German boxoffice-hit and multiple awarded cult film OH BOY goes to the US. In Cannes, Beta Cinema sold the tragicomedy to Music Box. The US deal is the latest in a row of international sales including all major European territories as well as Japan and Australia/New Zealand.

Music Box' managing director Ed Arentz: "We're thrilled to be working on one of the most entertaining debut films in some time. Writer/director Jan Ole Gerster has created a seemingly off-hand Berlin-set "Catcher in the Rye" and found a perfect lead in Tom Schilling. With the release of this film in the US, we disavow any responsibility for the likely increased influx of American slackers to Berlin."

Beta Cinema's CEO Dirk Schuerhoff: "We are genuinely very proud that Music Box picked OH BOY for the US. Ed Arentz und William Schopf, with whom we just recently partnered on "Generation War", strongly believe in this film and therefore we feel in very good hands".

OH BOY, directed by Jan Ole Gerster, is one of the domestic art house surprises of the year. In Germany alone it gained more than $ 2 mio with an extraordinary per screen averages (X-Verleih) and was the big winner at the German Academy Awards, receiving six Film Awards "Lola", including Best Film, Best Script, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. In his debut film, Jan Ole Gerster paints a self-ironic portrait of a young man (Tom Schilling, "Generation War") and the city he lives in: Berlin. Further roles are played by Justus von Dohnányi (DOWNFALL) and Michael Gwisdek (GOODBYE LENIN!). OH BOY was produced by Schiwago Film in coproduction with HR and ARTE. OH BOY will be released in Benelux (ABC-Cinemien) und France (Diaphana) within the next weeks.
