Paris, 18 May 2013. French distributor Pretty Pictures announced today that they have acquired János Szász’s LE GRAND CAHIER from Munich sales agent Beta Cinema.
The film, based on Agota Kristof’s famous postmodern anti-war drama and translated into more than 30 languages, stars the young twin brothers László and András Gyémánt, Piroska Molnár, Ulrich Thomsen (THE CELEBRATION) and Ulrich Matthes (DOWNFALL). Academy Award Nominee Christian Berger (THE WHITE RIBBON) is DoP.

LE GRAND CAHIER is produced by Intuit Pictures in co- production with Hunnia Filmstudio, Amour Fou and Dolce Vita Films, backed by Magyar Filmalap Zrt., MDM, MBB, MEDIA, Eurimages, Wiener Filmfund, CNC, DFFF and FISA.

LE GRAND CAHIER is set in a small village on the Hungarian border. Two young twin brothers grow up during the Second World War with their cruel grandmother and must learn every trick of evil to survive in the absurd world of adults.

Beta Cinema  unveiled the first teaser for the pic at Cannes. "We are genuinely very proud that Pretty Pictures picked LE GRAND CAHIER for the French market. We feel in very good hands and it is great to see James Velaise and Aranka Matits believe so strongly in this film” says Beta Cinema’s CEO Dirk Schuerhoff.
