The acclaimed Icelandic filmmaker Benedikt Erlingsson has started shooting 'A WOMAN AT WAR'. Scheduled to last 8 weeks, filming will take place in different locations around Iceland before wrapping in Ukraine. The movie is expected to be completed in Spring 2018.

This arthouse action film is the second feature for Erlingsson, who is also well known as an actor, theatre director and documentarist. His feature directorial debut, 'OF HORSES AND MEN', garnered more than twenty awards around the world including Best New Director at San Sebastián, Best Director in Tokyo, the Grand Jury Prize at Les Arcs European Film Festival, six Edda awards (the Icelandic Oscars) and the prestigious Nordic Council Film Prize.

'OF HORSES AND MEN' was also a critical favourite, quickly establishing cult status among horse and animal lovers, and going on to secure distribution in over 20 international territories.

'A WOMAN AT WAR' tackles the burning issue of environmental degradation trough the struggle of a woman who, alone against the odds and her entire community, decides to go on a mission to preserve nature and protect The Highlands of Iceland. "This film is meant to be a heroic tale in this world of imminent threat", says the director. "It's the story of a strong-willed woman who wants to save the world and finds a way to do it."

Halldóra Geirhađsdóttir ('Metalhead', 'Of Horses and Men', 'Devil's Island') plays Halla, "a modern Artemis, a goddess of hunting and the protector of the untouched and wild", details Erlingsson. 'A Woman At War' also stars the well known Icelandic musicians Davíð Þór Jónsson, Magnús Tryggvason Eliasen and Ómar Guðjónsson.

Benedikt Erlingsson directs from a script he wrote together with Ólafur Egill Egilsson ('Trapped', 'The Oath'). Collaborating with him behind the scenes is director of photography Bergsteinn Björgúlfsson ('Trapped', 'Of Horses and Men', 'The Deep').

Slot Machine (France) and Gulldregurinn (Iceland) produce the film in coproduction with Solar Media Entertainment (Ukraine). Slot Machine was founded by Marianne Slot in 1993 and has been the historical French partner for Lars Von Trier's films from 'Breaking the Waves' to 'The House that Jack Built', currently in postproduction. Its latest production, 'A Gentle Creature' by Sergei Loznitsa, premiered in the official competition at Cannes Film Festival this year.

Marianne Slot first met Benedikt Erlingsson in 2005 on the set of Von Trier's 'The Boss of it All', in which Erlingsson starred.

Munich based Beta Cinema handles international sales from the first version of the script. The producers also announced that distribution agreements are in place in certain key territories for the film. Slot Machine has already sealed a duo of deals for France, where Jour2Fête will take theatrical rights and well known specialty label Potemkine has home video rights, while Camera Film will distribute in Denmark. UFD will distribute A WOMAN AT WAR in Ukraine, in a deal negotiated by Ukrainian co-producer Solar Media Entertainment.

A WOMAN AT WAR is produced by Marianne Slot & Carine Leblanc for Slot Machine (France) & Benedikt Erlingsson for Gulldrengurinn (Iceland) in co-production with Serge Lavrenyuk for Solar Media Entertainment (Ukraine) Bergsteinn Björgúlfsson for Köggull (Iceland) Birgitta Björnsdóttir for Vintage Pictures (Iceland)
