Berlin, 7th Feb 2019. Beta Cinema is pleased to announce they have acquired the global rights (exc. North America) to the psychological thriller, CORVIDAE directed by Joe Marcantonio and starring Tamara Lawrance (The Long Song & Screen Star of Tomorrow 2018), Jack Lowden (Dunkirk, Calibre, Mary Queen of Scots) and Fiona Shaw (Colette, Killing Eve). UTA will handle the North American sale.

Produced by Dominic Norris and Jack Lowden through their recently launched, Scottish based production company Reiver Pictures. CORVIDAE is the highly anticipated first feature by Joe Marcantonio after his acclaimed short film RED LIGHT starring Jessie Buckley and Martin McCann.

When her boyfriend dies suddenly in a accident, psychologically fragile mother-to-be Charlotte is taken in by his family - but they seem increasingly obsessed with her every move. Plagued by mysterious hallucinations, her suspicions grow and panic builds - but just how far will they go in their desire to control her and her unborn baby?

The cast is completed by Chloe Pirrie (Black Mirror, The Crown) and Edward Holcroft (Kingsmen, Alias Grace). The film was written by Joe Marcantonio and Jason McColgan. It will be shot entirely in Scotland in April 2019. Executive producers are Gareth Wiley of Phoenix Wiley and Norman Merry of Lipsync Productions.

Tassilo Hallbauer, VP Sales & Acquisitions comments: “The script of CORVIDAE is a real page turner. I was struck by its richly drawn out characters, eerie atmosphere and surprising twists; It’s a bold and unique debut. In RED LIGHT Joe has proven his ability to create a distinct mood and his skill at directing actors. With this terrific cast on board CORVIDAE has great potential to become an international hit.”

Norris said: “CORVIDAE is a suspenseful thriller that explores the disturbing and very real themes of ‘gaslighting’ and ‘psychosis’. We have a  hugely talented cast and a visionary director. Beta & UTA are fantastic partners who saw early on the film’s strength in reaching and connecting with international audiences”.

Marcantonio said: “My aim is to make an original and truly engaging film that stands out from the crowd. We have all the right ingredients in place within the script, and we are blessed with the most phenomenal cast, led by Tamara, Jack and Fiona. I am so excited to be setting out on this production with such brilliant collaborators and cannot wait to start shooting.   ”.
