Munich, 4 May 2015. Sergio Castellitto’s YOU CAN’T SAVE YOURSELF ALONE leads Beta Cinema’s lineup at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The Italian box-office surprise about a once overwhelming but now broken love will have its world premiere at the Marché du Film. A promo reel is available for the Emma Watson/Daniel Bruehl/Mikael Nyqvist-starrer COLONIA by Academy Award winner Florian Gallenberger. Presales to the US, UK and Australia secured the outstanding family-entertainment feature GHOSTHUNTERS – ON ICY TRAILS, an English-language adaptation of Cornelia Funke’s bestselling novel, translated into 20 languages. The box-office heavyweight THE PASTA DETECTIVES with € 4 million in Germany alone marks the first collaboration between Beta Cinema and Fox International Productions.

In YOU CAN’T SAVE YOURSELF ALONE (Indiana/Wildside/RAI Cinema/Alien), the encounter of a separated couple to discuss the terms of the holiday break of its children turns into an emotionally charged reflection of the past. Multiple award-winner Sergio Castellitto (“Don´t move”) tells a funny yet sad story based on the international bestseller by Margaret Mazzantini.

A promo reel of upcoming COLONIA (Majestic/Iris/Rat Pack), which is currently in post-production and is going to be released this fall, should stir great interest within the buyers’ community. The $ 15 million thriller tells the story of Lena (Emma Watson, “Noah”/“Harry Potter”) and Daniel (Daniel Bruehl, “Rush”/“Inglourious Basterds”), a young couple who become entangled in the Chilean military coup of 1973. Daniel is abducted by Pinochet’s secret police to a sealed-off area called Colonia Dignidad, a place nobody ever escaped from.

Celebrating its international market premiere is GHOSTHUNTERS – ON ICY TRAILS (Lucky Bird/Warner/Lotus/Ripple/Immer Wieder Gerne/Arri/Satel). The witty and charming family-entertainment movie sees Milo Parker (“Mr. Holmes”/“Robot Overlords”) and German star comedian Anke Engelke (“Manitou’s Shoe”) team up with the animated Hugo, an “ASG”, an Averagely Spooky Ghost. The unequal trio sets off to save the world from a danger never experienced before: the Ancient Ice Ghost.

Beta Cinema’s third international market premiere goes to youngsters Rico and Oskar, the PASTA DETECTIVES. The outsiders, one a genius, the other a self-described “lowly gifted child”, form a perfect odd couple and manage to bring to justice a serial child kidnapper who is terrifying their Berlin neighbourhood. The Lieblingsfilm/Fox-production stars Karoline Herfurth (“The Reader”), Axel Prahl (“Grill Point”) and Ronald Zehrfeld (“Barbara”).

Beta Cinema’s Cannes lineup also includes Berlinale 2015 Silver Bear winning AFERIM! by Radu Jude, Berlinale official selection entry and widely sold 13 MINUTES by Academy Award Nominee Oliver Hirschbiegel, Berlinale Forum entry and Cicae Award winner ZURICH by Sacha Polak, Sundance Audience Award winner UMRIKA by Prashant Nair which has been snatched up by distributors for German speaking territories, France and Australia amongst others, and the two German family entertainment box-office hits THE FAMOUS FIVE 4 and BIBI&TINA 2.
