Munich, 19 February 2014. Berlinale-winning STATIONS OF THE CROSS and competition entry JACK have turned out to be Beta Cinema’s hot sellers at this year’s EFM. STATIONS OF THE CROSS by Dietrich Brueggemann, who was honored with the Silver Bear for Best Script together with his sister and co-writer Anna, was acquired for France (Memento), UK (Arrow Films), Italy (Satine Film), Spain (Caramel), Poland (Aurora), Benelux (Wildbunch), Portugal (Vendetta Films), Greece (7 Films), Scandinavia and Baltics (Nonstop), Former Yugoslavia (Discovery) and Hungary (Circo). Further interest is coming from the U.S. and Australia.

Beta Cinema’s second Berlinale competition entry JACK by Edward Bergerwill be released in France by Diaphana, in Japan by Showgate, in Norway by Europa Films, in Greece by Strada and in Hungary by Circo. 

STEREO by Maximilian Erlenwein, which ran in Panorama Special and stars Juergen Vogel and Moritz Bleibtreu, was picked up by Korea’s Sejong. Vietnam’s A Company acquired Philipp Stoelzl’s international box-office hit THE PHYSICIAN with Ben Kingsley and Stellan Skarsgard. 

Furthermore, Uberto Pasolini’s Venice Orizzonti-winning STILL LIFE was sold to Germany/Austria (Piffl), Spain (Contracorriente Filmes) as well as to Japan (Bitters End). Academy Award nominated TWO LIVES by Georg Maas with legendary Liv Ullman was picked up by Australia/New Zealand (Rialto), Spain (Karma), Portugal (Films4You), Brazil (Esfera Films) and Colombia (Cineplex).

Australia’s Pinnacle, Colombia’s Cine Colombia and Delta Films (Peru/Ecuador/Bolivia) secured the rights for THE DEVIL’S VIOLINIST by Bernard Rose, starring David Garrett. Flins&Piniculas will bring the Enid Blyton sequel FAMOUS FIVE III to Spanish theaters, Just Films will release it in the Benelux territories.

Anna Mastro’s US Indie WALTER, starring William H. Macy and Virginia Madsen, was sold on script basis to Korea (Cinema Republic) and Turkey (Codex). The Hungarian Academy Award entry LE GRAND CAHIER was sold to Poland (Aurora), BACK ON TRACK will be released in Israel by Orlando and in Japan by New Select.
