Munich, 31 October 2012. Two high-profile acquisitions lead Beta Cinema's lineup at this year's American Film Market. The charismatic star musician David Garrett makes his movie debut playing the role of Niccolò Paganini in THE DEVIL'S VIOLINIST, a mystery biopic about a life full of dramatic love, art and excess by acclaimed British director Bernard Rose (IMMORTAL BELOVED, MR. NICE, BOXING DAY). In Santa Monica, Beta Cinema unveils first images in a promo reel presentation. Beta Cinema has also acquired all rights outside the UK, USA and Germany to THE FAMOUS FIVE and its sequel THE FAMOUS FIVE II, based on Enid Blyton's beloved books that sold 100 million copies worldwide. The adventures of George, Julian, Dick, Anne and their dog Timmy came in first among the most successful German family entertainment features of the year.
In the early 1830s, Niccolò Paganini, the great virtuoso violinist, takes Paris by storm. Women faint at his concerts because of his genius and sex appeal. Rumors abound: He is capricious, vain and difficult; he has seduced half the noblewomen of Europe and has sold his soul to the devil. It is Garrett's alluring charisma and incredible virtuoso talent that bring excitement, energy and modernity to this film – the same way that he enchants his audiences during his sold-out concerts all over the word. Multiple award-winning actor, DoP, editor and director Bernard Rose has made a name for himself with a versatile body of work and was recently praised by the media for his Venice competition entry BOXING DAY. Also starring in the Summerstorm/Dor Film/Film House-production are Jared Harris (SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS, THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON), Joely Richardson (THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO) und Veronica Ferres (KLIMT).
THE FAMOUS FIVE have been delighting children all over the world for decades now. Georgina, who would rather be a boy, Julian, Dick, the rather anxious little sister Anne and the clever dog Timmy have paradise before them: summer holidays and no parents in sight. Their first adventures on the holiday island, in which they have to rescue George's inventor dad from research thieves, draw the children close together. In Part II, they set off on a bike excursion and end up in a mysterious kidnapping case and a wild hunt for a legendary precious gem. Director Mike Marzuk directs the action-packed children's crime stories, in which friendship triumphs over everything. THE FAMOUS FIVE is a production of SamFilm; Part II was coproduced with Constantin Film.
Moreover, Beta Cinema is presenting the AFM Market premieres of IMAGINE by Andrzej Jakimowski, who was just given the audience and director's award in Warsaw, FORGOTTEN, a mystery thriller by Alex Schmidt, SHORES OF HOPE by Toke Constantin Hebbeln and ORANGE HONEY by Imanol Uribe, who was honored with the special jury award in Montreal.
