Munich, 9 November 2015. Beta Cinema is proud to announce the acquisition of ALI’S WEDDING by the Australian director Jeffrey Walker and the renowned Academy Award nominated cinematographer Don McAlpine (‘Moulin Rouge’). The English language comedy, which is currently being shot, depicts the life of Ali, son of a Muslim cleric, who finds himself caught between his sense of family duty and following his heart, after a reckless lie set off a catastrophic chain of events leading up to a highly anticipated traditional wedding. An irreverent and warm-hearted comedy, ALI’S WEDDING is an affectionate and poignant story of love and duty. The script is written by Osamah Sami and Andrew Knight, produced by Sheila Jayadev and Helen Panckhurst. As Executive Producer serves Tony Ayres, Michael McMahon, Nina Stevenson, Greg Sitch and Ian Kirk. Shooting is set to be wrapped on the 16th December. ANZ distribution is in the hands of Australian powerhouse Madman.

Osamah Sami, who is of Iraqi and Persian origin, is the leading actor and Associate Producer in ALI’S WEDDING. Earlier this year he released his memoire Good Muslim Boy. The book was profiled at the Sydney and Melbourne Writer’s festival and featured as Book of the Week in The Australian.

ALI’S WEDDING is the latest project of Australian cinematographer Don McAlpine, Academy Award nominated for ‘Moulin Rouge’. He is known for his work on ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’, ‘Predator’ and ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’. Among them he is a member of both the Australian Cinematographers Society and the American Society of Cinematographers. The A.S.C. honored him with the 2009 International Achievement Award.
